Superhero Crafts

Today is #nationalsuperheroday! To celebrate the kids and I made these fun paper roll super hero puppets.  As we made them we discussed that super heroes were not just the ones they saw in the movies or read in comics.  I’ve been working on positive affirmations in my life and I want that for my children.

My children are my super heroes – it may sound sappy but they really are!  Being military kids is not an easy life but it’s the one we chose to raise our kids in.  The Air Force has provided us with so many opportunities we would otherwise not have had and we support my husband as he continues to choose to serve his country.  I think it is safe to say that my kids understand that military life is not for everyone and it is a commitment the entire family takes on so for the most part do not complain about having to move to new schools and form new friendships.  Their ability to adapt and succeed in every school and new community we move to gives me hope that we have given them the tools they need especially instilling in them the practice of self love and to know they are already their own superhero.

Let’s jump into some super hero crafts!

Reduce, reuse and recycle is something we try to do all year round!  After celebrating Earth day recently this paper roll superhero craft was a perfect way to reinforce that concept.  We used toilet paper roll and the roll found inside cricut vinyl.  I just cut the cricut vinyl paper roll into 3!  We also used leftover felt from our bunny craft so this craft was very budget friendly since I had everything already.

What You’ll Need:

  • Paper Roll(s)
  • Felt
  • Colored paper or paint
  • Googly eyes
  • Hot Glue gun or white glue
  • Scissors
  • Paper Roll Superhero cape outline – Click here

What To Do:

Print out the free paper roll superhero cape outline and cut it out.

Trace the outline onto your felt.

Paint or cover your paper rolls.  I measured, cut a piece of construction paper and then glued it onto the paper roll.

Place your paper roll seam side down in the middle of the cape and glue it to the top of your paper roll.

Glue on the googly eyes onto the mask.  Stay more towards the side that is square.

Glue on the mask towards the top of the paper roll and cover the outer edges of your cape.

If you would like to create a background for your paper roll super hero puppets take a white crayon and draw some windows on the remnants of your construction paper!  Enjoy some pretend play with your kids.

DIY Superhero Cape

All of my kids love pretending to be a super hero by playing dress up and wearing a cape.  It doesn’t need to be halloween for them!  We have a few superhero capes from years past but they always love when I bust out my sewing machine and make something for them.  Bless their little hearts, I just love how excited they get over my homemade creations.
