Shamrock Tic Tac Toe Cut File

If printing, download the shamrock template here .  If you want the shamrocks to be solid green print 6 copies on green paper.  This way you end up with 6 shamrocks with an X and 6 plain shamrocks.  You can also print the template as is to use or even color in for an extra fun activity.  Another option would be to print the template, then cut and trace onto green construction paper.  

If you are using a cutting machine, download the svg cut file (click here).  Remember to change the setting to your paper.  I forgot and had it on card stock but it was regular paper.  Cut out 6 sets.  This way you end up with 6 shamrocks with an X and 6 plain shamrocks.

Set Up 

I made a tic tac toe grid on the floor using decorative tape I picked up from the dollar store.  You could also use this tape to make the X on the shamrocks if you’d like!  Another option is to use a poster board as the grid to make the tic tac toe set more portable and reusable.

Learning Through Play

I wanted to make this a learning activity as well so I asked my 4 year old to pick up all the ones with X.  Then we talked about the letter X and other items that started with X.  Next, we talked about the letter green and I asked him to point out all the green items he could find in the room as well as name 5 other things that were green.  We also talked about the shape, he learned that it was a shamrock.

Play!

Then I went over how to play the game tic tac toe.  This was too hard for my 2 year old but was perfect for my 4 year old!  Then they had fun just making patterns which is also a great learning activity.
